The crystalline silence shatters, as many frequencies, both high and low, gurgle and erupt from deep within the speakers and burst out all shimmering in stereophonic sound. They don’t want you listening to too much of this sort of thing. Outside the algorithm there remains a world where the Listener Control Matrix has not quite managed to manifest any significant influence. This is the world that The U.R.G. are operating from. It lies parallel to your own, but remains unseen to most. If you are reading this, you have an opportunity for deep immersion in that world, and you’d be wise to dive headfirstrightnow into such a potentially transcendent pool of opportunity.

Well now, hold up there pardner - The last time that we encountered The U.R.G. they were pondering (or, rather, you might say they was plundering) the ineluctable modalities of that singular and labyrinthian day, June 16th of that year of our Lord 1922. But as happens it hasn't been 1922 for a minute now, and as you may have guessed has happened to our heroes is that a new day has dawned and a new cryptociphertext has come across their desks (marked as you might imagine 'URGENT' and inscrutable) to be examined, analyzed, ignored, palsied, stifled, and even occasionally read (but, to be modest, not so far as necessarily being understood) in order to provide something of a lens through which to view... wait, do you hear that? Take your copy of this cryptociphersupertext right now and roll it up into a tube and - no, don't smoke it! - put it to your ear... it's by the occult influence of the words therein that those normal, boring laws of sound that They have erroneously defined for us as s(x,t)=smaxcos(kx∓ωt+ϕ) will at long last fall apart and you can finally hear the songs of our heroes as they journey through the ur-texts. It goes a little something like this: And uh one and uh two and uh...

Ahhh yes, that beautiful sound! Now remember, as noted above (we really have to hammer the point home here), the basic process of transforming Literature into sound via Direct Musical Improvisational Response has not changed since The U.R.G. digested Joyce’s Ulysses way back in 2023, and despite repeated conditioning exercises that adhere to an approximately similar routine, the sonic synthesizoidal process has not even necessarily been refined. The point is that the practice of Reading & Playing without too much intermediate calculation often offers a glimpse at the Beyond—not just outside the Algorithmic Playlist Complex, but outside of the known existing musical form. So be cool, but listen.
